What does "Compukids" mean?
The word CompuKids means "computer children". We are a
computer center for children and youth from the age of 3 to 99!
Our main purpose is that CompuKids utilize the incredible power of their minds to learn how to use the computer in order to improve their lives through our innovative technological and pedagogical methodology.
The age in which a child is ready to use a computer varies from one child to the next. However, children can handle and use computers efficiently from a very early age. Researchers suggest that from the age of 36 months children are able to work with symbols such as letters and numbers. They can also use the mouse, become familiar with the keyboard and interact with programs suitable to their age.
These programs are easy to understand and use with little assistance from an adult. At the age of three, children generally use the computer fro 5-10 uninterrupted minutes. By the age of 4-5, the child´s attention has increased and he can approach the computer by himself and use it for a half an hour... or more depending upon his interest in the program. To summarize, the evidence indicates that the computer is a powerful took, provided that it is supervised by good teachers and contains educational software that follow the guidelines of a modern curriculum. One must know how to select among over 8,000 software in CD-ROM format to offer those that really help our children and youth to learn more, to become more sociable and more creative.
Why does CompuKids exist?
Nowadays the young generation of more developed countries has many opportunities
to use the computer. Computers and Internet are at schools, homes, libraries,
universities and learning centers. The years 1994, 1995 and 1996 have witnessed
the proliferation of computer centers for children at the United States
of America. Magazines such as Home PC, FamilyPC, and ComputerLife, publish
on a monthly basis an entire edition where they refer solely on the significance
of the computer and Internet for the entire family.
In Venezuela, The 1995-1996 period has also been a witness as to how the market has been flooded by consumers eager to buy powerful equipment and multimedia software with modems for connection to the Internet. That is the reason why in Venezuela we cannot stay behind this technological improvement. Remember that your son or daughter of today shall be the man and the woman of the year 2010. Your children must be prepared to compete in a different and unimaginable world according to our human and technological standards. It doesnít matter how skilled are the your childrenís schools regarding computers, it is practically impossible for them to be updated with the innovations in educational equipment and software suitable for your children. That is why we ended up by creating CompuKids.
What is our Magic Formula?
Our program respects the educational model of the Educational Division of
Johns Hopkins University. CompuKids has the ingredients that make it become
a highly successful center: supervisors at doctoral level specialized in
children education, teachers trained in Computer Science, a curriculum compatible
with the child´s developmental stages, a powerful multimedia equipment,
and modern educational software designed by expert teachers in order that
children may learn by having fun.
Our general goal is that students improve their imagination and nurture their power of thinking and of responding in a creative fashion while they participate enjoying sensorimotor experiences and at creative activities necessary to be successful in this technological era. Our educational objectives are that the child or teen-ager:
(1) To interact favorably with the computer.

(3) To increase self-confidence by mastering this tool.
(4) To develop a facility to use both the technology as well as the vocabulary of Computer Science.
(5) To expand his or her cognitive skills and creative abilities through the active exploration and learning.
